York Stage brings a new production of the musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie to the Grand Opera House, following the story of Jamie New, a teenage boy with big dreams.
Everybody's Talking About Jamie arrives at the Grand Opera House York on 16 October, in a new production from York Stage. It's the musical's first time at the Opera House, and it's not just a one-night thing — it runs through to 24 October, so there are plenty of dates to choose from if the opening night doesn't suit.
It's based on a true story, and that's where the heart of it is. The plot follows Jamie New, a sixteen-year-old with big dreams and the courage to stand out, with his mum's love and his friends' support behind him. It's a story about a kid who knows exactly who he wants to be and goes for it, and it's that kind of thing that works just as well as a family night out as it does for anyone who loves musical theatre.
The music comes from Dan Gillespie Sells, of The Feeling, with lyrics by Tom MacRae, who's been nominated for both a BAFTA and an Olivier. This production is directed by Nik Briggs, and it's a new staging brought to the city by York Stage, so it's a fresh take rather than a touring version passing through. The run starts on 16 October and goes on until 24 October, giving you over a week to find a slot that works.
