Every Day is an Adventure book launch and signing

Ken Cooke is launching his memoir, Every Day is an Adventure, at St Lawrence Parish Church on Saturday 26 September, from 10am to 1pm. He'll be there in person to sign copies, so if you've been following his story, it's a good chance to meet him and get a copy signed.

Cooke is 101, a Second World War veteran who was among the D-Day Normandy landings. He's a well-known face around the city, and he was recently conferred the Freedom of the City of York at The Guildhall. Even at his age, he still does dozens of educational talks every year, keeping the memory of York's Normandy veterans alive for the next generation.

The book itself came from a conversation while he was gardening at his home off Hull Road. It's written entirely in his own words, recorded by two friends, Amanda Stirk and Gillian MacDonald, who've known him since they were girls. Only 50 copies were printed at first, but on the suggestion of Nick Beilby, secretary of the Normandy Veterans Association, the run was increased tenfold. All profits go to a veterans' charity.

There's an audiobook in the works too, narrated by Beilby and produced through Forge Photography and Film Production. The launch is at St Lawrence Parish Church on Lawrence Street, York, on Saturday 26 September, 10am to 1pm.
