An exclusive, adults-only after-hours experience with theatre, special effects and storytelling, featuring darker, scarier shows than the daytime attraction.
The York Dungeon is running Dungeon Lates on Saturday 25 July, part of a whole season of after-hours shows that run every Saturday from 10 January to 24 October, except for 22 August. There are a few extra dates in October too: Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th, Friday 30th, and Saturday 31st, so if the 25th doesn't work, you've got plenty of other chances to catch it.
It's an adults-only experience, 18+ only, and it takes the standard attraction and turns it into something a bit darker and scarier. It's a mix of theatre, special effects and storytelling, and because it's for an older crowd, the jokes are a bit saucier and the banter a bit cheekier than what you'll find in the daytime shows. The whole thing is built around 2,000 years of York's dark history, and the Lates version dials up the intensity. You'll be moving through immersive sets with live actors, and the sensory stuff is right up front: darkness, loud noises, pungent smells and water sprays. It's the kind of thing that'll have you screaming and laughing at the same time.
One thing to keep in mind is that you're not just watching from the sidelines. Guests are chosen at random to step into the scenes—you might find yourself hauled before a judge or inspected by a doctor's assistant. The themed shows include Body Snatchers, Wrongful Convictions (which features a judge and a barrister) and Seance. It's a full-on immersive journey, so if you're not a fan of confined spaces or unexpected noises, this one might not be for you.
