David Essex brings his Thanks for the Memories tour to the York Barbican on Thursday 24 September, a night that looks back over a career spanning more than five decades. He's 78 now, and the tour title says it all: it's a retrospective of the songs and the stages he's known for.

Essex first made his mark as the lead in the London production of Godspell, and from there he moved into recording, writing and producing albums that sold millions. He put twenty-three singles into the British Top 30, with 'Rock On' being the biggest of the lot — it topped the charts in both the UK and the US, sold over a million copies, and earned a Grammy nomination. Other well-known ones include 'Lamplight', 'Hold Me Close' and 'Gonna Make You A Star'.
He's worked as much on screen as on record. His acting credits run through Silver Dream Machine, That'll Be The Day, Stardust, Traveller, The Guvnors and Black Prince, and he spent time on EastEnders as the head of the Moon family. The stage has kept him busy too: Elf, Evita, Boogie Nights 2, Footloose, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects Of Love, alongside his own musicals Mutiny! and All The Fun Of The Fair.
The show runs from 19:00 to 23:00, and tickets are on sale through AXS and Ticketmaster, with a booking fee on top. There's a premium seating package available as well as hospitality options if you're looking for something a bit more than a standard seat.
