Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon School Exhibition

DIG has a new interactive show running at St Saviour's Church, based on Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon School spin-off series. It opened on 21 July 2025 and stays open until 31 December 2027, so there's plenty of time to fit it in. The books follow Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and his dragons, Toothless and Windwalker, as they join the Viking and Dragon Training School on the Isle of Berk.

It's aimed at dragon trainers aged 5 to 12, and the show lets them meet characters from the books: Hiccup, Gobber the Belch, Old Wrinkly and Camicazi. Along the way, they'll discover the real history that inspired the Viking world Cowell built. The whole thing is written and illustrated by Cowell herself and published by Hodder Children's Books.

There's a proper hands-on side to it, too. It leans into the archaeology of conservation, so kids get to don a lab coat and safety goggles to investigate X-rays, see how harmful salts are removed from objects recovered from the sea, and examine specimens under microscopes. It sits inside DIG, a family attraction built to get children actively involved in archaeology rather than just looking at objects behind glass.

It's included with standard admission to DIG, and you'll find them at St Saviour's Church, St Saviourgate, York, YO1 8NN. With the show running until the end of 2027, you've got plenty of room to work around the school term.
