Family-friendly creative drop-in workshops led by artist Lendita, inspired by the museums' current exhibitions, where participants make art projects together.
Creative Families are running a series of family drop-in workshops across York's museums this summer, from Wednesday 22 July to 26 August. They're led by artist Lendita and take their cues from the exhibitions on display at the time, so each session is a different thing. They're open to all ages, and you don't need to book ahead—you just turn up when you fancy it.
There are a few distinct ones to pick from. On 24 July, York Art Gallery hosts a Sea Monsters session where you design and print your own creature using simple relief printing, inspired by Japanese woodblock prints. Then on 22 August, York Castle Museum looks to the Victorian York Gala; that one is led by Yorkshire artist Pippa Dyrlaga, and the activity is making a colourful hot air balloon based on her paper-cut installation. The final session on 26 August is at the Yorkshire Museum, where you make your own hoard of treasure, inspired by Chariots, Treasure and Power: Secrets of the Melsonby Hoard.

Between them, they cover three different venues—York Art Gallery, York Castle Museum, and Yorkshire Museum—so you can choose the one that's easiest to get to or the theme that sounds best. The workshops run every Wednesday from 22 July to 26 August, 10:30am to 3:30pm, and they're included in general admission, so if you're already visiting the museum, it's just one more thing to do while you're there.
