A family-friendly drop-in workshop where visitors experiment with sculpting techniques, inspired by the Turner, Wedgwood and Beyond exhibition.
York Art Gallery is hosting Creative Families: Sculpt and Shape on Thursday 29 October, a drop-in workshop for families to get hands-on with sculpting. It's part of the gallery's Creative Families programme, and the whole session is built around experimenting with different sculpting techniques rather than following a set plan.
The inspiration comes from the gallery's exhibition Turner, Wedgwood and Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman, so you'll be working with the same kind of ideas on display in the rooms around you. It's a family-friendly session, and they've made it open to all ages, so it works whether you're bringing along small children or a mix of ages from across the house.
One of the best things about it is the format: it's a drop-in, which means there's no need to pre-book. You just turn up on the day and can stay for as little or as long as you like between 10.30am and 3.30pm. If you've only got half an hour to spare, that's fine; if you want to spend the whole morning getting stuck in, you can. It's a good one for a day when you're already out and about in the city.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in York and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

As for the cost, it's included in general admission, so if you're already planning a visit to the gallery that day, the workshop is part of the deal. You'll find it at York Art Gallery, Exhibition Square, York, YO1 7EW, running from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Thursday 29 October.
