A closed group session for 18-35 year olds to explore creative activities in a supportive environment after loss, in collaboration with York Theatre Royal, facilitated by Stef Bricklebank.
York Theatre Royal is hosting a Grief Cafe Workshop on Tuesday 28 July, from 10am to 1pm, in the Keregan Room. It's a closed group session for 18 to 35-year-olds who've experienced loss, run by the theatre's Futureproof team. The idea is to bring together people in the same age group for a morning of creative activities in a supportive environment, where you can work at your own pace and without any pressure.
The session is led by Stef Bricklebank, a bereavement practitioner and drama therapist who specialises in working with young people. Stef is joined by Jem, who brings Jem's own personal experience of loss and Jem's connection to the local cultural community, and Eleanor, an artist and performer whose work draws on fantasy and traditional folklore. Together Stef, Jem and Eleanor guide the group through different ways of making, with poetry writing and puppet making as two of the things on the table. The focus is on connecting with creativity and with other people who've been through something similar, rather than on producing anything in particular.
Behind the workshop is Futureproof, a team at the theatre made up of people from different creative backgrounds. The team spends its time looking at how audiences connect with theatre and what that means for the future of the art form. This session is part of that wider work, and it's designed as a gentle space to be creative alongside others who get it.
