A festive afternoon with a heritage tour, wreath-making workshop and cream tea at the historic Carlton Towers.
Carlton Towers is hosting a Christmas wreath-making experience on Wednesday 25 November, from 13:00 to 16:30. It's an afternoon that combines a look around the house with a bit of making, and it's run by Martin, the estate's head gardener.
The first half is a behind-the-scenes heritage tour of the house, led by Martin himself. He'll take you through the state rooms and share some of the estate's hidden stories. There's a fair bit of history to draw from here: Carlton Towers is a historic Yorkshire family home that's passed entirely by inheritance, with roots going back to the Domesday Book of 1086 and serving as a family seat since 1614. The grounds include a walled garden vineyard, and inside you'll find state rooms, a picture gallery, an armoury, and a priest's hiding hole.
After the tour, you'll make your own bespoke Christmas wreath in the state rooms, using fresh seasonal foliage and natural materials. You're welcome to bring along your own decorations, ribbons or festive keepsakes to work into it, and no previous experience is needed. The whole thing wraps up with a seasonal cream tea served in the grounds.
