A hands-on workshop where participants can make their own Christmas chocolate treats at the historic York Cocoa Works.
York Cocoa Works is running its Christmas Chocolate Treat Making workshop on Thursday 12 November, and it's a good way to get ahead of the festive rush. You'll be making your own Christmas chocolate treats inside a working and learning chocolate factory, so you're not just in a kitchen — you're in the middle of the actual process.
It helps to remember why chocolate is such a thing here. York is known as 'The Chocolate City', and it's the home of Terry's Chocolate Orange, Rowntree's and Kit Kat. The connection goes back to 1646, when John Reilly was awarded freemanship of the city as a 'Confectioner' — a new profession at the time that established York as a centre of chocolate. Many of the world's best-known brands started right here: Rowntree's created Kit Kat, Smarties and Aero; Terry's came up with the Chocolate Orange and All Gold; and Craven's made French Almonds and Mary Ann Toffees. The city's confectionery heritage is celebrated at York's Chocolate Story in King's Square, and you can still make your own chocolate at York Cocoa Works.
