Christmas At Castle Howard

Christmas At Castle Howard returns to Castle Howard from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, with the house and grounds near York dressed for the season. The main draw this year is A Dickens of a Christmas, a Victorian immersive house experience by CLW Event Design and imitating the dog. It brings Charles Dickens' classic novels to life through projections, soundscapes and theatrical surprises, with characters like Ebenezer Scrooge appearing as you move through the house. It follows the same format as the previous few years, which saw The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice's Christmas Wonderland take over the rooms.

Outside, the grounds are lit up with Christmas trees along the North Drive and a large tree on the North Front. The Kelly Car land train runs between the Ticket Office, the House and Skelf Island Adventure Playground, so you don't have to walk the whole way. New for 2026 is a Jellycat Shop in the Stable Courtyard, stocking a collection of soft companions. In the Christmas Marquee, there are pies by Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks.

There's a fair bit to pick from beyond the house. Christmas Gardens start from £15 for adults, and A Dickens of a Christmas from £24. Santa's Grotto in the Jellycat Shop is from £37.50, and Christmas Afternoon Tea is £50 per person. For the kids, Father Christmas in the Castle is from £60, while A Christmas Carol Theatrical Afternoon Tea is £60 per person. There's also a Wreath Making Workshop from £50 for adults. Parking is £7.25 per car, free for Blue Badge holders. A daily bus, route 81, runs the estate from York city centre, and all tickets must be pre-booked online.
