Chris Hadfield is coming to York Barbican on Wednesday 2 June 2027, with his new live show Exploring the New Space Age. It's a talk and workshop, so it's more of an evening of listening and learning than a performance, and it's part of a tour he's taking across the country.
Most of us know Hadfield as the astronaut who recorded Space Station +1 and became a bit of a household name for his videos from the ISS, but there's a lot more to his CV than that. He's a former Colonel, a commander, a spacewalker, and a bestselling author, with three spaceflights under his belt and time spent commanding the International Space Station. He's also worked closely with NASA, SpaceX, and various world governments, including the British Royal Family.
That's the background he's drawing on for this one. The show focuses on the Artemis era — the current push to get humans back to the Moon — and places it within a space economy that's now worth around $2 trillion. He'll be talking about the geopolitics of lunar resources, satellite mega-constellations, and the Astra Carta, a plan for space sustainability. It's not just a look at the rockets, then; it's about the money, the politics, and the laws that come with going back.

As for what the night actually looks like, it's a presentation built around visuals and behind-the-scenes insights, with Hadfield sharing personal stories from the edge of human experience. There's a live Q&A session at the end, so you'll get a chance to ask your own questions. It starts at 7:30pm at York Barbican on Wednesday 2 June.
