A 12-hour charity darts marathon at The Punch Bowl, part of Craft Fest, raising funds for York Against Cancer.
The Punch Bowl Darts Team are back at The Punch Bowl on Saturday 22 August for their second annual charity darts marathon, this time as part of Craft Fest. It's a twelve-hour stretch, running from 10am to 10pm, with every point they score going to York Against Cancer.
If you're not familiar with the charity, it's a local one that supports people affected by cancer across York and North & East Yorkshire. They fund pioneering cancer research and provide cancer awareness education, so the money stays close to home. The team's challenge is to score 170,000 points on an upside-down dartboard within those twelve hours. It's a bit of a twist on the usual game, and they're chasing a specific target rather than playing a standard match.
They've done this before, too. Last year they finished on 165,957 points, so they've got a benchmark to beat this time around. That puts the 170,000 target in perspective: they're looking to top their previous best by just over 4,000 points, which, spread across twelve hours, is a steady climb rather than a massive leap. It's the kind of thing that starts out easy and gets a lot tougher as the day wears on.
