A 10k night walk through York's illuminated streets in support of Cancer Research UK, inviting people of all ages and abilities to participate.
Cancer Research UK's Shine Night Walk returns to York on Saturday 26 September, with a 7pm start from Rowntree Park. It's a 10k night walk through the city's illuminated streets, open to people of all ages and abilities, so you can bring the whole family along. The route takes you past some of the city's most recognisable landmarks: the Yorkshire Museum, Micklegate Bar, York Minster and Fishergate Postern Tower.
People walk for different reasons — in honour of someone, in celebration, or in remembrance — and the money raised goes to Cancer Research UK. One of the things that sets this one apart is that you get to choose which cancer types your fundraising supports, from bowel cancer to childhood cancers, so you can direct your contribution toward the research that matters most to you.
Jose Ramos, Cancer Research UK's spokesperson for the north of England, describes it as 'an uplifting and unforgettable evening where thousands come together to take on a unique challenge, make memories and make a difference for people affected by cancer', and adds that 'it's not just the glowsticks and glitter that light up the night, it's the hope everyone brings'.
