A community-led bazaar gathering over 30 local makers, creatives and traders with handmade crafts, vintage finds and locally produced goods.
The Bishy Road Bazaar is back at the Bishopthorpe Road car park on Sunday 23 August, from 11am to 3pm. It's the fourth date of the year for the market, which has run on 19 April, 24 May and 19 July, with a break in June.
If you're not familiar with the area, Bishopthorpe Road — or Bishy Road, as most of us call it — is one of those York streets with a real identity of its own: independent shops, great places to eat and a community that pulls together. The bazaar is a community-led event that brings more than 30 local makers, creatives and traders together under one roof. On the tables you'll find handmade crafts, unique gifts, vintage finds and locally produced goods, all from people working right here in the city.
It's funded through the Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund, part of York and North Yorkshire mayor David Skaith's scheme to back local high streets and give local creatives a platform. An event spokesperson describes it as an opportunity to showcase the makers and creatives living in York and to celebrate what Bishy Road has to offer.

The bazaar is just one part of what's happening on the street this year. The street party on 21 June is called one of the best community events in York, and there are plans for a music festival later in the year as part of a push to keep Bishy Road at the heart of York's independent scene. The bazaar runs from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 23 August at the Bishopthorpe Road car park.
