A relaxed tasting experience led by WSET-trained expert Emma Moore, exploring beer and cheese pairings with premium craft beers from Yorkshire breweries.
York Distillery is hosting a Beer, Crisps & Cheese Tasting Experience on Thursday 9 July, and it's one of three dates they've got lined up this year, with more to follow on 13 August and 12 November. It's an adults-only session, run by beer expert Emma Moore, who's WSET trained, so there's a proper bit of knowledge behind it rather than just a few drinks on a table.
The main event is ten generous pours of premium beer, running from crisp lagers through to hoppy IPAs and rich stouts, each paired with artisan crisps and cheeses. Most of the beers come from breweries in the North, which fits with Yorkshire's reputation as the UK's brewing capital. Along the way, Moore talks you through how different flavours work together, how to spot and describe the different styles, and how to put together your own pairings at home when you're not at a tasting.
It's not just a sit-and-sip affair, either. There's a beer-themed quiz with prizes mixed in, and the whole thing is pitched as a social evening rather than a formal class, so it's more about having a drink and a chat than taking notes. If you're not a beer drinker but fancy a night out with some good snacks and a bit of a laugh, it's a decent way to spend a Thursday evening.
