Hands-on beekeeping workshop with apiarist Cristina from MI Honey at Carlton Towers, suitable for beginners and nature lovers.
Cristina from MI Honey is running a beekeeping workshop at Carlton Towers Estate on Sunday 19 July, from 10am to 2pm. It's a half-day session, and you don't need any prior experience to join in — it's aimed at beginners and anyone with a general interest in nature.
The morning starts at the Stables Tearoom with an introduction and some light refreshments, then you'll take a short walk across the estate to the hives in the park. That's where the practical part happens: an interactive demonstration with the bees, with Cristina on hand to talk you through how a hive actually works. After that, you'll head back to the Old Servant's Quarters — the Cooks Kitchen — for a light lunch of platters and refreshments.
MI Honey describes the session as a family-friendly activity, and it's open to anyone interested in bees. Cristina herself put it simply: "We're thrilled to have signed this contract for providing beekeeping training." People who've done it before have had good things to say, too — one couple mentioned meeting Cristina and her bees and found the presentation "very informative and most enjoyable."

It's £100 per person, and all the gear is provided, including the bee suits, so you don't need to bring your own. The only thing they suggest bringing along are wellington boots, which makes sense given the walk out to the hives. The whole thing runs from 10am to 2pm on Sunday 19 July at Carlton Towers Estate, York.
