A family performance combining storytelling, animation and live brass music bringing a piece of York history to life.
Bear and the Band comes to the Tempest Anderson Hall at the Yorkshire Museum on Saturday 24 October, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. It's a family performance that brings a bit of York history back to life, and the story it tells is as odd as it sounds.
Back in 1831, a real bear was sent from the York Museum Gardens to London, travelling on top of a stagecoach. That's the starting point for the show, and it's being staged in the very gardens where the bear once roamed. The performance works as an unusual combination of live storytelling, animation and brass music, with the three running together rather than one after another.
There are three names behind the different parts: Martin Watt on the storytelling, Andy Burns with the animated film, and the Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band providing the live music. The band also presents the whole thing, so they're the ones leading the evening. It's a family show, and the hour-long format makes it easy to fit in with the kids without it dragging on too long.
