A pulsating, electric contemporary rock/pop musical following students at a Catholic boarding school as they grapple with sexuality, identity, and the future.
bare runs at Theatre@41 from 3 to 5 December, a new production by the Central Hall Musical Society. It's a contemporary rock/pop musical set in a Catholic boarding school, and the society is putting it on through a special agreement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
The story follows a group of students at the school as they navigate sexuality, identity and the future. Much of the plot unfolds while they're putting on their own production of Romeo and Juliet, a play-within-a-play that lets the tensions between them surface and brings their personal doubts to the front. It's a sung-through score, so the singing doesn't stop for dialogue, and the lyrics are written to be intense. The cast is a diverse one, and the whole thing is described as a provocative, fresh and honest look at the risks of showing your true self and the cost of hiding it.
