Stained glass watercolour workshop inspired by the windows of the Merchant Adventurers' Hall, led by artists Anna and Yulia.
Art at the Adventurers returns to the Merchant Adventurers' Hall on Thursday 8 October, the second of two workshops running this autumn. The first was on Thursday 17 September, so if you missed that one, this is your second chance to get in. Both sessions are part of Clavis Mentis, a programme of art and workshops hosted at the hall.
The focus here is a stained glass watercolour workshop, led by artists Anna and Yulia. The whole thing is inspired by the windows of the Merchant Adventurers' Hall itself, so you'll be working with the light and colour coming through the glass right there in the room. It's a watercolour session, so you'll be painting rather than working with actual glass, and the two artists will be on hand to guide you through it.
It helps to have a bit of context for where this is happening. The Merchant Adventurers' Hall is one of the finest medieval guild halls in the world, a Grade I listed landmark that's been at the heart of York since 1357. It's more than 660 years old and is still cared for by the York Merchant Adventurers Company. It's as much a working venue as a monument: it houses the Merchants' Coffee House and continues to host weddings, corporate events, awards evenings and dinners alongside its programme of exhibitions and talks.
