A half-day masterclass run by the award-winning Luke's Bakery, teaching participants how to mix, shape and bake sourdough bread from scratch.
Luke's Bakery is running a sourdough masterclass at Carlton Towers Estate on Saturday 28 November, from 10:00 to 16:00. It's a half-day session held in the Cooks Kitchen — the estate's original servants' quarters kitchen — and you'll meet at the Stables Tearoom before heading in.
It's aimed at all abilities, from complete novices to enthusiastic amateurs, with the promise of having you mixing, shaping and baking like a pro by the end of the day. You'll walk through making the dough, how sourdough actually works, shaping and baking, and you'll leave with the loaf you baked plus some of Luke's sourdough starter to keep going at home. All equipment is provided and lunch is included, so you just need to turn up. For the best results when you're back in your own kitchen, a steam oven is recommended; otherwise, Luke suggests bringing your own cast-iron pot to replicate the results.
Luke's Bakery is an artisan sourdough bakery run by Luke Jenneson, who walked away from a career at Lloyds to bake proper bread in East Yorkshire. He bakes by hand at the bakery in Brough using flour from Driffield, backed by Pipers Crisps founders James Sweeting and Alex Albone. Founded in December 2022, the business now employs around 15 staff and serves over 100 wholesale customers.
