A festive musical theatre show following the story of two sisters and the ghosts of fashion, with a three-course luncheon included.
The Two Lucys bring A Very Victorian Christmas to Middlethorpe Hall & Spa on Wednesday 25 November, starting at 10:30am. It's a morning out that runs well into the afternoon, so clear your schedule for the whole thing.
The show is called History Wardrobe, and it's a comedy built around two sisters: Ethel, the grumpiest dressmaker in the land, and Ermintrude, who just wants a jolly Christmas party. The plot follows the ghosts of Fashions Past, Present and Future as they try to persuade Ethel to dress her sister in a ballgown. Around that, The Two Lucys weave a history of Christmas with a textile twist, drawing on their previous shows Housewife at War and Dressed to Impress.
It's a full day's affair. The morning starts with tea or coffee and biscuits in the Drawing Room, then the presentation itself in the Barlow Room, and it finishes with a three-course luncheon served with wine, coffee or tea, and fudge. If you're thinking of making a proper trip of it, there's a special event rate that includes accommodation available by phone or email.
