A Christmas Carol brought to life by This Is My Theatre in a candlelit setting at Holy Trinity Goodramgate, with performances on 18, 19 and 20 December.
This Is My Theatre bring A Christmas Carol to Holy Trinity Goodramgate on 18, 19 and 20 December, a one-act adaptation of the Dickens classic that runs about 85 minutes. It's a condensed version of the story we all know, packed with carols and played out in a single act, so it fits into a late afternoon or early evening without taking up your whole day.
It's a production that's been around the country, and the reviews have been consistently warm. Lynn News called it "full of festive cheer... as faultless as ever," and Sussex Local Magazine gave it five stars, praising the "melodic carols and outstanding performances" that "ramped up the festive feel-good." If you're looking for the familiar, comforting side of Christmas, that's exactly where this sits.
The setting is a big part of the experience. The show is a candlelit journey through Victorian London, and it's staged inside Holy Trinity Goodramgate, a church building over 800 years old. Because it's candlelit, the light levels stay low throughout, and since it's an old church in December, it can get chilly. The organisers suggest bringing a comforter and fingerless gloves to keep you warm while you watch.

There are five performances across the three days. On Friday 18 December, there's a 17:00 show and a 19:30 one. On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20, it's a 14:30 matinee each day. Each run is about 85 minutes, so you're in and out in under an hour and a half. You'll find it at Holy Trinity Church, 70 Goodramgate, York, YO1 7LF.
