Extended workshop combining creative writing with letterpress printing and bookbinding; all equipment and materials provided.
A Book in a Day is running at Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print on Sunday 20 September, from 10:00 to 16:00. It's one of the centre's hands-on workshops, and the title tells you exactly what it is: you go in with an idea and leave with a finished book. The session brings together creative writing, letterpress printing and bookbinding, all in a single day. All the equipment and materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything but your own words.
Thin Ice Press is a print and book arts centre run by its director, Professor Helen Smith. It's housed in the studio at St Anthony's Hall, set in a tranquil garden overlooking York's city walls. The centre works across analogue printmaking, offering letterpress, linocut, risograph and bookbinding workshops, alongside equipment hire and exhibition space, with weekly clubs in lino, riso and letterpress. Its programme feeds into wider city initiatives like the annual York Ghost Week and the Festival of Ideas, and it recently announced the inaugural York Wayzgoose, a print-focused gathering with guest speakers, a suppliers' fair, workshops, a print-your-own-beermat pub crawl and a print auction.

A Book in a Day fits into the centre's hands-on format, which combines writing, printing and binding into one session. It's a good way to see the whole process of making a book from start to finish in a single morning and afternoon. The workshop runs from 10:00 to 16:00 on Sunday 20 September at Thin Ice Press, St Anthony's Hall, York.
