7 Til 7

Archbishop Holgate's School is taking on a whole-school running challenge on Monday 28 September, and it's a big one. They're calling it 7 Til 7, and the name tells you exactly how it works: every pupil from Year 7 right through to Year 13 runs at least seven laps of the school field, with the day stretching from 7am to 7pm. Around 1,800 pupils are taking part, running in year-group waves throughout the day, and the school is hoping the whole lot together will clock up more than 12,600 laps.

The whole thing is inspired by rugby league legend Sir Kevin Sinfield CBE. His own '7 in 7' feat — seven ultra-marathons in seven days in memory of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow — has raised more than £11 million for the motor neurone disease community since 2020. It's a hell of a benchmark to hold up, and the school has built the day around that same spirit of doing something hard together. Assistant headteacher Joanna Kitney put it simply: they wanted the pupils to feel part of that.

It's not just for the kids, either. There's a community session running from 4pm to 7pm, so if you're around the school in the late afternoon, you'll see the pupils and the local community out on the field together. The main challenge runs from 7am to 7pm on Monday 28 September at Archbishop Holgate's School in York.
