A Theatre for Young Audiences production of the classic children's tale Jacq and the Beanstalk, designed to entertain and educate young audiences.
Creative Arts Theatre Company brings Jacq and the Beanstalk to the New Tampa Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, April 28, 2027. It's a theatrical take on the old children's tale, staged as a Theatre for Young Audiences production and presented as part of the center's TYA program.
This version puts a spin on the story we all know. Jacq is a clever, scrappy 10-year-old who thinks she can handle everything on her own. When her family's chicken stops laying eggs, she heads to the village for help and comes home with magic beans instead. From there, she climbs a beanstalk in pursuit of riches and finds that the giant she meets might not be what he seems. It's a familiar setup, but with a lead character who does things her own way.
The show is part of the center's TYA programming, which curates plays, musicals, and dance for young audiences and families. The goal is to entertain and educate, inspire creativity, and encourage critical thinking. These productions also double as field trips that align with at least one State of Florida education standard, so it works as a school outing as much as a family day out.
