Month-long Halloween celebration of STEAM at the Glazer Children's Museum with hands-on science activities, storytimes and live science performances.
Spooky Science is taking over the Glazer Children's Museum for the whole month of October, from October 1 through 31. It's the museum's signature October eventβa month-long celebration of STEAM with a spooky twist. The whole thing is built around making science feel magical, approachable, and fun, and they're clear about one thing: there are no jump scares here, so it's safe for the little ones who aren't quite ready for the scary side of Halloween.
Throughout the month, kids get to play the part of mad scientist. They'll spend their time mixing, testing, and tinkering through hands-on art and science activities, and Team GCM leads not-so-spooky storytimes. The museum's MakeSpace crafts are designed to work on gross and fine motor skills while encouraging habits like decision-making, trial and error, experimentation, collaboration, and curiosity. This year's craft is cyanotypes: visitors arrange objects on light-sensitive paper and let the sun create blue-and-white silhouettes.
There are also a few live science-inspired performances scheduled throughout the month. The Mad Science Show by Mad Science of Greater Tampa Bay runs on October 3 and 24. Dr. Reacto and DJ Dan bring the Reactory Factory Show on October 10, and Blaise Ryndes does the Spheres Bubble Show on October 17. If you're planning a trip, it's worth checking those dates so you can time your visit around a show.
