South Florida men's basketball opens its 56th season with a game against Charleston Southern at the Yuengling Center on the USF Tampa campus.
South Florida takes on Charleston Southern at the Yuengling Center on Monday, Nov. 2, and it's a doubleheader—the women's team plays the same night, so you can catch both games in one trip. It's the men's opener of their 56th season, and they're playing it at home on the USF Tampa campus.
There's a new face leading the team this year. Chris Mack was named the program's 13th head coach on March 25, 2026, and he comes to Tampa from the College of Charleston, where he put up two 20-win seasons. He brings more than 300 career wins and a winning percentage just under 68 percent, including twelve 20-win seasons and nine NCAA Tournament appearances. He's taking over a program that's been on a run: the 2025-26 squad went 25-9, won both the American regular-season and tournament titles, and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2012. USF also took home American regular-season championships in 2024 and 2026, and the conference tournament title in 2026.
If you're new to the scene, the Yuengling Center is the program's home arena on the Tampa campus, and it seats around 10,400. The school's history is on the walls there, too—three former players, Chucky Atkins, Charlie Bradley and Rodenko Dobras, have their jerseys retired and are in the USF Athletic Hall of Fame alongside coaches Amir Abdur-Rahim and Bobby Paschal. And the arena will be seeing a lot more of this: South Florida is set to host both the men's and women's American Conference Basketball Championships at the Yuengling Center in 2027 and 2028.
