Homeschool engineering class where students design and build structures to withstand real engineering challenges.
The Museum of Science and Industry is hosting SEED Ages 8-10: Just Build it! on Tuesday, April 6, 2027, and Thursday, April 8, 2027, from 1 PM to 3 PM. It's a homeschool engineering program for students aged 8 to 10, and the whole session is built around one thing: designing and building structures that can actually hold up under real engineering challenges.
If you're not familiar, SEED Days are monthly enrichment classes for homeschoolers. They're designed to complement a homeschool curriculum through hands-on explorations of STEAM—science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The focus here is on the engineering side of that mix. Instead of just reading about how things stay standing, the kids spend the afternoon building their own structures and then putting them to the test to see if they hold up. It's a chance for them to work through the trial-and-error part of the process in person.
One thing to keep in mind: these sessions are for students only. Parents are asked to make other arrangements while their children work, so you'll be dropping them off and picking them up rather than hanging out during the class.
