Hands-on class for children aged 5 to 7 to explore the science behind sugary treats, part of the SEED homeschool enrichment program.
Sweet Science is coming to the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa on Tuesday, February 2, and Thursday, February 4. Both sessions run from 1 PM to 3 PM, so you can pick whichever afternoon works better for your schedule.
It's a hands-on class for kids aged 5 to 7, and the whole thing is built around the science of sugary treats. Instead of just hearing about it, the kids get to experiment with candy and simple ingredients to see how things actually work. Along the way, they'll run into concepts like chemistry, states of matter, and how materials change when you heat them or mix them together. If your kid loves sweets, this is a way to turn that interest into something they can actually wrap their head around.
The class is part of the Homeschool Science Experience Enrichment Days, or SEED, which is a cycle of monthly enrichment classes for homeschoolers. The idea is to complement their regular curriculum with hands-on STEAM explorations—science, technology, engineering, arts, and math—so they get to do the kind of work that's hard to set up at a kitchen table. Sweet Science is one of those sessions, and since it's part of a larger cycle, it's just one of several opportunities the museum puts on throughout the year.

It's aimed at children aged 5 to 7, and the museum does set a minimum age of 5 to take part, so keep that in mind if your little one is right on the edge. Tickets are $25 for non-members and $20 for members, and since there are two dates to choose from, you can fit it into your week wherever it fits best.
