A guided tour of Cracker Country followed by a hands-on workshop where students collect, sketch and plant seeds.
Secret Life of Seeds is a student workshop for ages 6 to 10 happening at Cracker Country on Wednesday, March 24, 2027, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. It's part of the Cracker Country Homeschool Programs at the Florida State Fairgrounds, located at 4800 US-301 in Tampa.
Cracker Country is a rural living history museum that preserves Florida life from the late 19th century through its gardens and historic buildings. The workshop starts with a guided tour of those grounds, so the kids get a feel for the place before the real work begins. The second hour opens up the hidden world of seeds: students reenact the surprising ways seeds spread, collect and sketch a variety of them, guess which trees or plants they'll become, and plant seeds to take home. It's a hands-on morning that turns a simple question—how do trees and plants appear in the middle of nowhere?—into something they can actually see and do.
If you're heading that way, you can also stop by the Cracker Country General Store. It stocks nostalgic and reproduction items, historical toys and games, books, and candy, and the proceeds go toward the museum's education programs. It's a good spot to browse while you're already on the grounds.
