5K run and One Block Walk through Ybor City supporting Tampa General Hospital's Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer program.
Richard's Run For Life returns to Centennial Park in Ybor City on Friday, November 6, 2026, starting at 6 PM. It's a fundraiser for Tampa General Hospital's Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer program, which provides specialized care for cancer patients aged 15 to 39. The program is named the Richard & Melanie Gonzmart AYA Cancer Program.
The event is built around two ways to participate: a 5K run and a One Block Walk, both taking you through the historic Ybor City district. If you're not in the mood for a full race, the walk lets you get involved without the mileage. After the run and walk, there's food, beer, and wine, with favorites from Columbia Restaurant, Ulele, and Casa Santo Stefano.
There's a personal story behind the program. Its founder, Richard Gonzmart, is a fourth-generation caretaker of Tampa's 1905 Family of Restaurants. Earlier this year, he and his wife Melanie made a $1 million gift to the program, and this run is part of that ongoing support. The AYA program itself fills a specific gap in cancer care, focusing on the 15-to-39 age group rather than pediatric or adult oncology.
