Merit badge workshop where scouts explore horticulture and agriculture as botanists at MOSI.
MOSI is hosting a Plant Science Merit Badge Workshop on Sunday, April 4, 2027, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's a three-hour session designed for scouts to work through the Plant Science merit badge in a single morning rather than stretching it out over several weeks of meetings. The workshop runs at the Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa, so it's right in the city for anyone who doesn't want to travel far to get the requirements checked off.
The focus is plant science, and the day is set up as a hands-on exploration of horticulture and agriculture. Instead of just reading through a handbook, scouts spend the session working as botanists—getting their hands dirty and seeing how plants actually grow, from the soil up. It's a good fit for kids who'd rather be doing something than sitting through a lecture, and it lets them knock out a full merit badge in one go.
If you're a scout leader, this is a convenient way to get a group through the requirements without having to organize your own materials or find a space to do the practical work. The museum handles the setup, so you just bring the scouts and let them dive in. Since it's a morning workshop, it leaves the rest of your Sunday open, which is always a plus when you're coordinating a troop.
