Christmas celebration with live vallenato and Christmas music, the traditional Encendido de Velitas, Colombian food and lights.
La Alborada brings their Christmas celebration to the Scottish Rite Masonic Center on Sunday, December 6, 2026. The show is called La Alborada Tampa (Edición Día de Velitas), and it's built around the traditional Colombian Encendido de Velitas—the lighting of the candles. That's the centerpiece of the whole day, the moment when everyone makes wishes together. The organizers describe it as the most emotional part of the event, and it's the tradition that gives the day its name.
Around that, there's a full day of music and food. The band plays vallenato and Christmas hits, and there's typical Colombian gastronomy on hand, with the space decorated with lights and flags. It's an all-ages event, so it works as a family outing as much as a night out with friends. Seating is available, which is a nice thing to keep in mind if you're bringing kids or older relatives.
It's a long day, so you can settle in. The music and the food run throughout, and the Encendido de Velitas happens as part of the program. The whole thing is presented as the community's most anticipated Christmas gathering, a holiday tradition to share with family and friends. If you've never experienced Día de Velitas before, this is a good way to see how it's done.
