Hands-on STEAM workshop for K-2nd graders on emergency preparedness, connected to scouting first-aid and safety merit badges.
MOSI is hosting Rescue Ready, a kids' STEAM workshop on emergency preparedness, on Sunday, April 25, 2027. It runs from 10 AM to 1 PM and is geared toward K-2nd grade, so it's built for the younger end of the elementary school crowd. The whole morning is hands-on, with kids working through activities rather than just listening to a presentation.
It's part of MOSI's Kids STEAM Workshop series, which brings together science, technology, engineering, art, and math through playful, age-appropriate projects. This particular session focuses on emergency preparedness—the kind of practical, first-response thinking that's usually a bit abstract for six- and seven-year-olds until they get to actually do something with it. The activities are designed to let them explore those concepts by making and doing, not just reading about them.
If your kids are in scouting, there's a direct connection here. The workshop ties into official merit badges: the Girl Scouts Brownie First Aid badge, and for Cub Scouts, the Tiger Safe and Smart and Wolf Germs Alive badges. It's one of those rare times a morning at the museum also knocks out some of the requirements for their troop work.
