STEAM workshop for 3rd to 6th graders to plan, film, act in and edit their own short film on location at MOSI.
MOSI is hosting Director's Cut, a STEAM workshop for kids, on Sunday, February 21, 2027, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's aimed at 3rd through 6th graders, and the whole session takes place on location at the Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa.
What sets this apart from a typical one-off class is that the kids don't just watch a movie—they make one from start to finish. They'll walk through the entire filmmaking process: storyboarding, planning, filming, acting, and editing. They're working together to put their own short film together, and they're doing it right there in the museum, so the building itself becomes part of the set. It's a full cycle in a single morning, from the first sketch to the final cut.
If your kids are already in the Girl Scouts, there's an extra hook here: the session connects to the Cadette Digital Movie Maker badge, so they can work toward that while they're filming. It's a good fit for that age group—3rd through 6th grade—where they're old enough to handle the tools and the collaboration but still young enough to really get into the acting and the storytelling side of things.
