Hands-on homeschool STEAM class for children aged 5 to 10 that explores the science behind sugary treats, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
MOSI is bringing back its SEED program this winter, and the next session is Sweet Science, a hands-on class where young learners get to explore the science behind sugary treats. It's part of their Science Experience and Enrichment Days, which they run as a complement to homeschool curricula, with the focus on STEAM—science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
One of the things that makes SEED work is how they handle the age gap. They split the kids into two groups—one for ages 5 to 7 and another for 8 to 10—so the activities are pitched at the right level for each. That way, the younger ones aren't overwhelmed and the older ones aren't bored, and everyone gets to actually do the work rather than just watch. The sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 PM to 3 PM, with dates stretching from November 2026 through January 2027, so you can fit them around your own schedule.

There are a few practical things to keep in mind before you sign up. Pre-registration and payment are required at least a week in advance, and the classes are for students only—parents make their own arrangements while the session is under way. It's $25 per class for non-members and $20 for MOSI members. If you're already a member, that's a nice little break on the price, especially if you're planning to drop in for more than one session over the course of the winter.
