Family-friendly campfire tales by The Suncoast Storytellers under the star-lit sky of the historic Tampa Theatre.
The Suncoast Storytellers take over the Tampa Theatre on Tuesday, October 27, for Campfire Stories, an evening of scary, family-friendly tales. The whole thing is staged around a campfire under the theatre's star-lit sky, and the stories are rated PG, so it's one of the few Halloween nights you can actually bring the kids to without worrying about where the line is drawn. It runs from 7 PM to 9 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM.
The night is part of the 14th annual A Nightmare on Franklin Street, a series of horror films, cult favorites, family-friendly Mummy & Me screenings, and ghost tours that the theatre puts on every October. This year's run also marks the building's centenary. The Tampa Theatre opened in 1926, and the restored movie palace is owned by the City of Tampa and run by the not-for-profit Tampa Theatre Foundation. It's a member of the League of Historic American Theatres and the Art House Convergence, and it's known around town as one of the most haunted buildings in the cityβwhich makes it a fitting place for a night of ghost stories.
