Beginner class to make a custom stained-glass bat in the Tiffany style as a plant stake or sun catcher while sipping boba.
Art by Pena is hosting a beginner-friendly stained glass bat class at Kaleisia Tea Lounge on Saturday, October 31, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. It's a Halloween-themed workshop where you make your own custom bat out of stained glass, which you can then use as a plant stake or a sun catcher. The glass arrives precut and ground, so you don't have to worry about the messiest part of the process—the cutting—and you can jump straight into the assembly.
The class focuses on the Tiffany-style steps: foiling, burnishing, and soldering. If you've never touched a soldering iron before, that's fine; the whole thing is pitched as a judgment-free way to pick up a new skill. You'll be working through those steps over the course of two hours, and you'll leave with a finished piece you made yourself. The bat can go right into a potted plant or hang in a window to catch the light.
It's held inside Kaleisia Tea Lounge, one of Tampa's nicest tea houses, and you can sip boba while you work. A few practical things to keep in mind: the class is open to ages 14 and over, and you'll be sitting on cushions on the floor, so come prepared for that. Parking is free, and if your plans change, refunds are available up to seven days before the event.
