Walking tour led by the Landmarks Association of St. Louis through the architectural legacy of downtown St. Louis, from Union Station to the Peabody Opera House.
Landmarks Association of St. Louis is leading a walking tour through West Downtown St. Louis on Saturday, November 21. The walk focuses on the architectural legacy of downtown St. Louis, where some of the city's grandest buildings still stand as a record of its ambitions during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Along the way, you'll see Union Station and the Peabody Opera House, two of the area's most recognizable landmarks. The tour traces the district's shift from a blighted area to a monumental one, starting with the riverfront of French-American entrepreneurs and moving toward the skyscrapers that rose later. It's a look at how the neighborhood changed over the decades, from its early days by the river to the taller buildings that came to define the skyline.

Landmarks Association of St. Louis runs the tour, and they also put on a lecture series that covers the history, architecture, and culture of the St. Louis region. If you're into the city's built environment, this is a good way to see it on foot rather than just driving past. The tour takes place in West Downtown St. Louis on November 21.
