Walking tour led by the Landmarks Association of St. Louis through the architectural legacy of downtown St. Louis, from Union Station to the Peabody Opera House.
The Landmarks Association of St. Louis is leading a walking tour through West Downtown St. Louis on Saturday, October 24. It's a look at the architectural legacy of downtown, where some of the city's grandest buildings still stand as a record of its ambitions during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The tour follows the district's shift from a blighted area to a monumental one, tracing it from the riverfront of French-American entrepreneurs to the skyscrapers that rose later.
Along the way, you'll see a few of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Union Station and the Peabody Opera House are two of the highlights, and the walk connects them within the broader story of how the neighborhood changed over the decades. It's a good way to see the area not just as a collection of buildings, but as a sequence of different eras layered on top of each other.
