Guided 2-mile walk through Benton Park led by the Missouri Department of Conservation, exploring its natural features, plants and wildlife.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is leading a guided walk through Benton Park on Monday, October 19, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. It's part of their Walk in the Park series, a program they've built for all ages and abilities, so it's as much for families as it is for anyone who just wants to get outside and see the neighborhood from a different angle.
The walk covers about two miles, winding through Benton, Carnegie, and Cherokee Parks. Along the way, the guides point out the natural side of things—the seasonal plants and local wildlife that call these spaces home—while also touching on the cultural and historical details that make each park distinct. It's a slow-paced way to notice the things you usually walk right past when you're just cutting through on your way somewhere else.
That historical side comes into focus when you look at the neighborhood. Benton Park is known for its historic houses and its brewing history, and the walk starts right in the middle of it: check-in is at Bluewood Brewing, 1821 Cherokee St, which is housed in the old Lemp Brewery stables. It's a nice tie-in, starting at a spot that's a direct link to the area's past before heading out into the green spaces.
