First meeting in 25 years between the St. Louis Billikens and the University of Missouri men's basketball teams, opening a three-game series.
St. Louis Billikens take on Missouri at Chaifetz Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and it's a matchup that's been a long time coming. The two programs haven't met in 25 years, so this is the first time in a quarter-century that SLU and Mizzou are sharing a court. It's also the first game of a three-game series, though the other two dates haven't been announced yet.
SLU is coming off a historic run. The Billikens won 29 games last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, and they're bringing a lot of that experience back: nine players return, including three all-conference performers. Mizzou arrives off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and one of the top-rated recruiting classes in the country, so both teams are coming in with some real momentum.
There's a bit of a rivalry feel to this one, even with the long gap between games. SLU head coach Josh Schertz called the matchup a win for basketball fans across St. Louis and the state of Missouri, and Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates added that rivalries are what make college basketball so special. Between the two programs, it's a clash of a veteran SLU squad and a Mizzou team that's been consistently in the tournament and bringing in high-end talent.
