A symphonic story by Sergei Prokofiev conducted by Samuel Hollister, designed for young audiences to discover orchestral music through imagination and storytelling.
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra brings Peter and the Wolf to Powell Hall on Sunday, February 21, 2027, at 3 PM. It's part of their Concerts for Kids series, which is built for young audiences—think ages 6 and up—so it's a good one to bring the kids to if you're looking for a Sunday afternoon activity.
For those who haven't heard it, Peter and the Wolf is Sergei Prokofiev's symphonic story where each character is brought to life by a different instrument: the playful bird, the sneaky wolf, and so on. The whole point is to listen closely and use your imagination to follow along. This version is framed by a virtual adventure to the Endangered Wolf Center in Eureka, Missouri, a partnership the SLSO put together with the center. By the time the music wraps, you might find yourself thinking the wolf isn't such a menace after all.
Samuel Hollister conducts the SLSO for this one, and while the main feature is Peter and the Wolf, the rest of the repertoire is still to be announced. The concert is 45 minutes long with no intermission, so it's a quick, focused session that doesn't drag—perfect for younger kids who might struggle with a full-length symphony.

Beyond the music, the series includes preconcert activities to get kids ready before the first note, and it's inclusive of people with sensory differences. It runs from 3 PM to 3:45 PM at Powell Hall, and the whole thing is geared toward ages 6 and up.
