Ovven, the indie rock and alt-country project of Nashville songwriter Owen Burton, plays The Heavy Anchor with support from Low Cloud and Jeremy Cullen.
Ovven plays The Heavy Anchor on Wednesday, October 21, with Low Cloud and Jeremy Cullen opening. Ovven is the indie rock and alt-country project of Nashville songwriter Owen Burton, and the name is pronounced just like the kitchen appliance.
Burton's debut album, Gnawing at the Cord, was produced by Alex Farrar, who has worked with MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, and Indigo De Souza. The record has drawn a fair amount of attention: Indie Scene called it a "fuzz-guitar, alt-country tour-de-force," SiriusXM Outlaw Country called it "an instant classic," and critic Steven Hyden described it as "compulsively relistenable." That fuzz-guitar description gives you a good sense of where the sound sitsβit's alt-country that doesn't shy away from a distorted edge.
Low Cloud and Jeremy Cullen are both St. Louis artists, so they'll be holding down the early part of the bill before Burton takes over. Between the two openers and the headliner, it's a full night of music coming from three different songwriters.
