Member lecture by curator Simon Kelly on women Impressionist painters and the landscape, held in the Farrell Auditorium.
Simon Kelly is back at the Farrell Auditorium on Thursday, October 22, for a member lecture titled Women Impressionists and the Land. Kelly is a curator, and this one is an encore—a second run of a talk that clearly hit a chord the first time around.
The subject is exactly what the title says: the women of the Impressionist movement and their relationship with the land. While the big names of Impressionism usually come to mind first, Kelly shifts the focus to the women artists of the era, looking at how they painted the outdoors and the landscapes they worked in. It's a chance to see a familiar movement from a different angle, with the curator walking through the work and the history behind it.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind before you head out. First, this is a member lecture, and it's already sold out. If you didn't snag a seat, there's a silver lining: a video recording will be made available for members, so you can still catch the whole thing on your own time. Second, it's free for members, which is one of the perks of the membership in the first place.
