The Midnight Company's Linda Ronstadt retrospective, with Kelly Howe as Ronstadt, in the new music showroom and lounge Blue Strawberry.
The Midnight Company brings Just One Look to Blue Strawberry on Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 PM. It's a Linda Ronstadt retrospective written and directed by the company's creative director, Joe Hanrahan, who also stars in it as Lenny Anderson, a veteran rock journalist and Ronstadt superfan who finally gets to interview his unrequited love. Kelly Howe takes on the role of Ronstadt, singing her songs in a nostalgic rock 'n' roll cabaret. Howe is a Midnight Company regular; she previously played a mysterious woman in their 2024 production of Harold Pinter's Old Times.
The show premiered in 2023 and became a sold-out hit, with Hanrahan serving as MC and guiding the audience through Ronstadt's diverse repertoire. Ronstadt was a 20th-century vocal giant who got her start in country rock and Tex-Mex bands; her original backing band later became The Eagles, and she had a high-profile fling with Mick Jagger. The set pulls from that wide range, and the framing device—the journalist finally getting his interview—gives the music a narrative thread to follow.
On stage with Howe are music director and pianist Curt Landes, Tom Maloney on guitar and bass, and Mark Rogers on percussion and backup vocals. Together they build out the sound for the cabaret, with Landes handling the arrangements and Maloney and Rogers filling in the gaps around the piano. The show is an all-ages production, so it works as a date or a night out with the family.
