Live Afro Jazz Fusion show by Ish Ensemble at Atomic Lounge, a 21+ venue after 9 PM.
Ish Ensemble plays Atomic Lounge on Friday, November 13, at 10 PM. They're an Afro Jazz Fusion Collective, and the show runs for about four hours, so it's a long one—come prepared to settle in for the night rather than just popping in for a quick set.
As an Afro Jazz Fusion Collective, they pull from a few different traditions at once. The jazz side brings the improvisation and the swing, while the Afro influence adds the rhythmic drive and the melodic lines that set it apart from a standard jazz quartet. When those two meet, you get music that's as much about the groove as it is about the solos, and with a four-hour window, they've got plenty of room to stretch things out.
Atomic Lounge is at 4140 Manchester Ave in St. Louis, and there's one practical thing to keep in mind before you head over: the venue enforces a 21+ policy after 9 PM, so you'll need a valid ID to get in. Since the show starts at 10 PM, that rule is in full effect from the moment you arrive.
