New Line Theatre's 2027 staging of the 1960s rock musical HAIR, marking its 60th anniversary, at the Marcelle Theater.
New Line Theatre is bringing HAIR, the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical to the Marcelle Theater in Grand Center, running from June 3 through June 26, 2027. Previews start Thursday, June 3, and after that, the show runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8 PM.
If you're not familiar with it, HAIR grew out of the 1960s anti-war movement, hippie counterculture, experimental theater, psychedelic exploration, rock and roll, and the poetry of Allen Ginsberg. It first played at Joe Papp's Public Theatre before evolving into its Broadway form under Tom O'Horgan's direction. This 2027 staging marks the show's 60th anniversary, and it's the first time New Line has produced it for a fourth timeβthey first staged it in 2000 at Washington University's blackbox theater, brought it back in 2001 at the ArtLoft Theatre, and again in 2008 at Washington University's South Campus Theatre.
The book and lyrics are by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, with music by Galt MacDermot. Scott Miller and Chris Moore direct, with choreography by Livy Potthoff, sound design by Ryan Day, scenic design by Dr. Rob Lippert, costume design by Lauren Smith, and lighting design by Eric Wennlund. The cast calls itself 'the Osage Tribe.'
