An imaginative, immersive concert experience where the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and StoneLion Puppet Theatre explore the water cycle through music, movement and puppetry.
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra brings Our World of Water to Powell Hall on Sunday, April 25, 2027, at 3 PM. It's part of their Concerts for Kids series, which introduces young children to orchestral music through playful, interactive experiences. This one is best enjoyed by ages 6 and up.
Samuel Hollister conducts the musicians of the SLSO, and the show was created in partnership with StoneLion Puppet Theatre, with special guests from Ignite Theatre Company. The concert follows the water cycle, with water acting as both guide and storyteller as it travels from icy glaciers to flowing rivers, vibrant oceans, and falling rain. It's an immersive setup: waves of fabric and larger-than-life puppets transform the hall into a watery world, and the whole thing is built around music, movement, and puppetry. The SLSO describes it as an experience that sparks curiosity and wonder for audiences of all ages.
Beyond the stage, the orchestra pairs these live concerts with at-home resources. There's SLSO SoundLab for Families, a virtual experience exploring the intersection of music, science, and technology, and Instrument Playground, an online program where children learn about the orchestra's instruments by interviewing SLSO musicians. The concerts are inclusive of people with sensory differences, with accommodations provided.
